What does the name Gîte Tour du Monde mean?

Gîte (pronounciation is sheet) is a French word for holiday home.
Tour du Monde means a trip around the world.
We, Judith & Frank, are working both parttime as cabin attendants for the KLM.
For more than 13 years we travel around the world while working.
During our trips we have collected quite a number of souvenirs.
You will find several of these souvenirs in the holiday home.
We also decorated the house with local souvenirs that we discovered on the flea markets (vide grenier, litteraly: empty attic) in the region.

What is included in the rental fee?

The rental fee can be found under "availablility" and is indicated per week.
It includes:

  • bed linnen, towels, a kitchen towel and a tea towel
  • the use of electricity, internet, water and gas
  • tourist tax
What is the climate of the Provence?

klimaat vaucluse

Roaix is a small village, situated in the Vaucluse which is part of the Provence.
Here the sun is shining approximately 300 days a year.
From the end of May till the end of October the average temperature is 20 degrees celcius (68 Fahrenheit) or above.
In the statistics above you will find the average temperature (1971-2010) of Carpentras, a city located 26 kilometers away from our gîte Tour du Monde.

What do you like to know about the Provence/Vaucluse?
  • The Provence is "expensive" or rather "not cheap" – food in the supermarkets and drinks on a nice terrace are as expensive as in the United Kingdom
  • It can be rather hot in July and August – the French (and so are we) are active in the early morning and in the evening. In between time is relaxing time!
  • The Provence attracts a lot of people (Belgians, the Dutch , the English and the Germans). The idea that the Vaucluse is overloaded with tourists is relative while 40% of the region is forest.
  • The Vaucluse attracts quite some cycle lovers. The racing cyclists adore the Mt Ventoux.
  • The Provence/Vaucluse has a lot of small and pituresque old villages lying in a beautiful landscape.
  • The Vaucluse offers plenty of walking trails. There are endless backroads through vineyards and along charming villages.
  • The Provence is especially famous for its lavender, its poppie and sunflower fields. You can admire this beautiful scenery around June, July and August.
  • The French are chauvinist and they like to be spoken to in their own language. However young people are becoming more fluent in English now. The French in general are very helpfull.
